Senior Commercial Account Executive / Team Lead:
A well-established, growing independent insurance agency is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Account Executive / Team Lead to join its team in a newly created leadership-focused position.
This is a confidential search created around the agency's continued growth and the need for an experienced commercial insurance professional who can provide both hands-on account management and leadership, training, and mentorship to a growing team.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong commercial insurance background, a proven history of managing complex client relationships, and the ability to serve as a technical and professional resource for less-experienced team members.
This individual will remain involved in production and client service while helping develop the next generation of account professionals, improving workflow, and ensuring the agency's growing book of business receives the level of service and expertise expected by its clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and service a substantial portfolio of commercial insurance accounts while maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.
- Serve as a senior technical resource and mentor to junior commercial insurance professionals.
- Review new business opportunities and determine the appropriate team member to handle each opportunity based on complexity, experience, and capabilities.
- Personally handle larger or more complex commercial accounts when appropriate.
- Guide junior team members through the quoting, placement, servicing, renewal, and client-management processes.
- Review work product and provide ongoing coaching to improve technical knowledge, confidence, and account-management capabilities.
- Help ensure junior producers and account professionals are appropriately equipped to manage the size and complexity of the accounts assigned to them.
- Assist with training and onboarding new team members, particularly during their initial development period.
- Maintain a strong understanding of commercial insurance markets, carriers, underwriting requirements, and available coverage options.
- Utilize comparative raters and carrier resources to identify appropriate markets and develop effective insurance solutions.
- Evaluate multiple markets and carrier options rather than relying on a single quote or placement strategy.
- Maintain an active pipeline of new business and renewal activity.
- Support continued organic growth by effectively managing inbound opportunities generated through the agency's marketing efforts.
- Help establish consistent processes and expectations for commercial account management and client service.
- Collaborate closely with agency leadership and staff to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Utilize Applied Epic and other agency technology effectively to maintain accurate and efficient account management.
- Use modern technology and AI tools, including ChatGPT, where appropriate to improve communication, efficiency, and workflow.
- Draft clear, professional client and carrier communications consistent with agency standards.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and agency initiatives designed to support continued growth and employee development.
Required Qualifications:
- Significant experience in commercial property & casualty insurance, preferably 10+ years.
- Proven track record as a Commercial Account Manager, Account Executive, or similar senior-level insurance professional.
- Strong generalist commercial insurance background.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex commercial accounts and client relationships.
- Strong knowledge of commercial property and casualty coverage, markets, carriers, and underwriting considerations.
- Experience working with larger or more sophisticated commercial accounts.
- Ability to independently manage the full account lifecycle, including new business, renewals, remarketing, servicing, and client communication.
- Experience mentoring, training, supervising, or informally leading other insurance professionals.
- Strong understanding of how to evaluate and select appropriate markets and carriers.
- Experience using comparative raters and carrier resources to develop competitive insurance solutions.
- Proficiency with Applied Epic or a comparable agency management system.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to balance individual production responsibilities with team leadership and development.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple accounts and competing deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Team Lead, Senior Account Manager, Department Lead, or supervisory experience.
- Experience managing or overseeing a substantial commercial book of business.
- Experience working with property-heavy commercial accounts.
- Experience with complex or older property risks.
- Exposure to nonprofit, life sciences, R&D, or other specialized commercial risks.
- Experience training and developing junior commercial insurance professionals.
- Active P&C insurance license.
- Experience with a book of business in the $3M–$4M+ premium range or similar complexity.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Commercial P&C professional to step into a department-level leadership role with meaningful influence over people, processes, client service, and growth. For immediate consideration, please contact Kyle Meyer directly.
