About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established CPA and business advisory firm based in the Chicago area, is seeking a fully remote Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager to join their high-net-worth tax practice. The role works directly with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and their related entities, with a technical scope covering complex investment partnerships, hedge fund and private equity K-1s, family wealth structuring, and trust tax filings. The firm takes a client-facing, relationship-driven approach to its work, and the role carries a genuine path toward a principal-level seat for the right candidate.

This role is built for a technical expert who thrives on advising clients directly, rather than managing internal politics or competing priorities between partners. The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA with at least five years of experience working with clients who hold complicated investment portfolios, including investment partnerships, real estate investment partnerships, complex Form 1099 filings, and hedge fund or private equity Schedule K-1s. A genuine interest in family wealth structuring and trust tax filings is essential, along with a collaborative approach to sharing technical knowledge with colleagues and mentoring junior staff. This is a strong fit for someone looking to advance toward a principal role and play a hands-on part in growing the firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage tax compliance engagements in accordance with firm and professional standards
• Apply technical expertise to detail-review complex tax returns, projections, workpapers, and tax research
• Communicate proactively with clients and engagement partners on project status and client service opportunities
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and delivering exceptional service
• Plan and schedule tax engagements with clients and firm resources
• Manage assignment budgets, identify opportunities to improve profitability, and assist with billing and collections
• Share technical knowledge with the team and provide Associates and Seniors with coaching and career development support
• Contribute to proposal development and support recruitment efforts through professional networks

Technical Qualifications

• Active CPA license and a bachelor's degree in accounting
• Minimum of five years in a tax role focused on high-net-worth individuals, preferably within public accounting
• Strong technical expertise reviewing complex Form 1099s and hedge fund or private equity Schedule K-1s
• In-depth knowledge of tax accounting, tax law, tax planning, and advisory work
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex workpapers and analytical reporting
• Proficiency in CCH Axcess Tax and Engagement preferred
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax matters clearly to clients and staff
