Senior Staff Accountant

Location: Waco, TX (Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.)


A well-established financial institution is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to play a key role in financial reporting, analysis, regulatory reporting, and process improvement initiatives. The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting month-end and year-end close processes, maintaining general ledger accounts, preparing financial analyses, and assisting with regulatory and management reporting. This individual will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate financial information while contributing to strategic initiatives and process enhancements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries and maintain assigned general ledger accounts
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations and financial analyses
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including variance analysis and preparation of financial reporting schedules
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of recurring regulatory reports, including Call Reports, as well as management and board reporting packages
  • Analyze financial results, identify unusual activity and significant variances, and communicate findings and recommendations to management
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special projects that strengthen financial reporting and internal controls
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to auditor requests, and assisting with implementation of recommendations
  • Research accounting issues, system workflows, discrepancies, and core banking system-related matters
  • Process and review recurring accounting activities while maintaining documented procedures and internal control standards
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and decision-support materials for management and business partners
  • Participate in special projects, system enhancements, cross-training initiatives, and other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA designation or active progress toward CPA certification preferred
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Experience with general ledger reconciliations, financial analysis, and month-end close activities
  • Banking or financial institution accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with budgeting and reporting software, Cognos, Microsoft Query tools, banking core systems, and general ledger platforms preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial statement analysis, and audit support processes
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively across departments
  • Strong research, problem-solving, database, and critical-thinking abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
