Rigging Superintendent

A well-established construction organization specializing in industrial and heavy commercial projects is seeking a Rigging Superintendent to support continued growth within its field leadership team. The company is recognized for safely executing large-scale projects with complex rigging and lifting requirements while maintaining high-quality standards. This opportunity offers project leadership, oversight of specialized field teams, and the ability to manage critical rigging operations on industrial and heavy commercial projects.


The Rigging Superintendent will oversee rigging operations, coordinate teams, and ensure the safe lifting, moving, and setting of heavy machinery and equipment. This role involves leadership on-site, compliance with safety regulations, and collaboration with project management, subcontractors, and inspection agencies. Travel and overtime may be required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Align, level, and anchor cranes and heavy equipment
  • Assemble and install supporting structures, rigging, hoist, and pulling gear
  • Connect pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures using bolts, shackles, and clamps
  • Control movements of heavy equipment through narrow or confined spaces
  • Dismantle, maintain, and store rigging equipment
  • Manipulate rigging lines and hoists to move or support materials, steel, and concrete
  • Select rigging gears, cables, and shackles according to load size, facilities, and schedule
  • Signal and direct workers and equipment operators to ensure safety of personnel and materials
  • Test and inspect rigging and machinery before lifting, hoisting, or moving loads
  • Conduct final post-rigging inspections to ensure safety of all items
  • Provide leadership and maintain positive morale among on-site staff
  • Understand the General Contract, subcontract agreements, drawings, specifications, and addenda; assist Project Manager with on-site procedures
  • Identify design deficiencies, impractical details, or potential code violations and communicate to Project Manager
  • Support Project Manager and Scheduling Manager in developing, refining, and updating project schedules
  • Plan and review construction programs including quality control, safety, field office setup, utilities, staging, equipment, and manpower
  • Verify subcontractor readiness, including Certificates of Insurance, executed subcontracts, Schedules of Values, and Safety Programs
  • Ensure all permits and licenses are obtained and posted appropriately
  • Coordinate with inspection agencies and implement required remedial actions
  • Chair weekly coordination meetings and monthly safety meetings with subcontractors; issue minutes to Project Manager
  • Review subcontractor daily reports and approve monthly payment requests
  • Maintain strong communication and relationships with all project stakeholders, including the public
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety programs and toolbox meetings


Required Qualifications:

  • Union Ironworker, Millwright, or Boilermaker Journeyman preferred
  • Excellent mechanical reasoning and mathematical skills, including load calculations and lift planning
  • Knowledge of current industry standards and regulations for rigging mechanisms and devices
  • Skilled in positioning and preparing cranes and lifting devices
  • Ability to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Familiarity with the latest industry technology
  • Experience managing multiple crews simultaneously
  • Ability to complete electronic daily reports (timesheets, worklogs, JSAs, PTPs, productivity tracking, budget reviews, QAQC reviews)
  • Flexible schedule with ability to travel and work overtime
  • Experience managing large-scale general contracting industrial and heavy commercial projects
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • 30-hour OSHA training
