Associate Attorney – General Liability Defense

The Associate Attorney will focus on defending high-exposure catastrophic personal injury cases, including products liability, general negligence, premises liability, and related matters, from discovery through trial while delivering exceptional client service and maintaining the highest standards of defense practice.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage a caseload of high-exposure catastrophic personal injury defense matters, including products liability, trucking/automobile accidents, premises liability, and general negligence
• Conduct thorough investigations, analyze liability and damages, and develop strategic defense theories
• Draft pleadings, discovery requests/responses, motions, summary judgment papers, and trial briefs
• Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, defendants, experts, and witnesses
• Negotiate settlements with plaintiffs' counsel and coordinate with insurers to achieve favorable resolutions
• Prepare and present cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial, including witness preparation, motions in limine, and trial advocacy
• Analyze medical records, expert reports, and economic/damages projections to build robust defense arguments
• Collaborate with partners, paralegals, investigators, and experts to strengthen case strategies
• Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding case progress, risk assessment, and defense strategy
• Participate in client development, industry events, and firm thought leadership activities

Required Qualifications:

• 2-7 years of relevant experience in civil defense litigation, with demonstrated handling of high-exposure or catastrophic personal injury cases (products liability and general negligence defense experience strongly preferred)
• Proven track record of contributing to successful defenses, favorable settlements, or defense verdicts in serious injury matters
• Strong litigation skills, including discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation
• Expertise in assessing liability, damages mitigation (including comparative fault, future medicals, and economic losses), and negotiating high-stakes claims
• Solid understanding of California tort law, premises liability, products liability, insurance coverage issues, and related regulations
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills
• Strong communication, negotiation, and client relationship-building abilities
• Active California Bar admission; Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• Established network or interest in the Los Angeles defense bar preferred
