Project Manager – Water/Wastewater Treatment (WWTP)

A well-established construction organization specializing in industrial and heavy civil infrastructure is seeking a Project Manager to support continued growth within its water and wastewater division. The company is recognized for delivering complex municipal and utility-focused projects with a strong emphasis on safety, technical expertise, and operational excellence. The Project Manager will oversee project scheduling, buyout, estimating, document control, and coordination of self-perform teams and subcontractors on water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) projects. This role may involve managing one large project or multiple projects simultaneously, with typical project values ranging from $1M to $50M. Travel may be required depending on project location.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and uphold the company’s safety culture while ensuring compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Manage all phases of WWTP construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Oversee project financials including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and change order management
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project or Primavera
  • Lead subcontractor procurement, buyout, and contract negotiations
  • Coordinate self-perform and subcontractor scopes with field supervision
  • Maintain document control including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout documentation
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, municipal stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and quality standards specific to water/wastewater projects
  • Monitor project performance to ensure profitability, schedule adherence, and risk mitigation
  • Support estimating efforts including budgets, value engineering, and change order pricing
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders through consistent communication
  • Oversee project planning, logistics, and execution of complex treatment systems and infrastructure
  • Support project closeout including commissioning, documentation, and turnover to the owner
  • Travel as required to support project needs


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • 8–10 years of experience within a General Contracting or Construction Management environment
  • Direct experience managing water/wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) projects required
  • Strong understanding of construction processes related to treatment facilities, utilities, and infrastructure systems
  • Experience managing project financials, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination
  • Knowledge of public infrastructure contracts and municipal processes preferred
  • Familiarity with construction software such as Sage 300, ProCore, Prolog, or similar platforms preferred
  • Experience with Design-Build, General Contracting, or Construction Management delivery methods
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders including engineers, municipalities, and regulatory agencies
  • Experience working with self-performing general contractors preferred
